Welcome to Don Joaquin River Lodge, a family-owned retreat tucked away on the banks of the Corriente River in Esquina, Argentina. This hidden gem offers world-class Golden Dorado fly fishing in a truly spectacular wetland wilderness, paired with the warmest Argentine hospitality.
Guests can enjoy the thrill of fishing for the famous Golden Dorado, relax in elegantly decorated lodge rooms, and share delicious meals in a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you are a novice or an experienced angler, the lodge’s expert guides tailor every day on the water to your skill level. For beginners, patient instruction is provided, while seasoned anglers will face exciting challenges that test their technique.
Alongside Golden Dorado, the season (November–March) also offers the chance to fish for brook trout and brown trout, making this destination a diverse and rewarding adventure.
The vibrant green, yellow, orange, and black markings of the Golden Dorado make it one of the most striking freshwater fish in the world. But beyond its beauty, anglers admire its fierce fighting spirit. Every strike is a test of skill, as Dorado behaviour changes with conditions—from feeding near submerged trees and rocky outcrops to hunting in clear or murky waters.
Golden Dorado fly fishing is addictive because no two encounters are the same. Migratory and resident fish demand different techniques, keeping anglers challenged on every cast.
Recommended Equipment:
6 to 8 fly rods with matching floating or sinking lines
Streamers or poppers, depending on conditions
A solid strip-set technique (not a trout lift) is essential for hooking Dorado
Knottable wire between leader and fly to withstand their powerful jaws
This combination ensures you’re ready to face the explosive runs and cutting power of these remarkable predators.

Don Joaquin River Lodge is also the ideal destination for families and non-anglers, offering a wide range of activities beyond fishing:
Estancia Don Joaquin – Just a short drive from the lodge, this traditional working estancia is home to more than 1,000 cattle and 70 horses.
