The upper River Test offers a nice variety of small carriers and larger stretches of the main river. Due to its location in the upper valley, the river enjoys great water clarity whilst still getting prolific hatches of fly. It offers a great mix of stocked and wild brown trout and some healthy shoals of grayling. In the winter months, we offer grayling fishing for the hardy.
This is a great way to learn some new skills, which can also help when fishing for the more technical trout in the summer. Each beat is serviced by its own simple fishing hut, suitable for the group of you to have lunch. There are 8 beats on the Wherwell estate. beats 11,10 & 9 are on the main river and beats 3,4,5,7 & 8 are smaller carriers.
You may keep a brace of stocked trout if you wish. We ask that you make sure no wild trout are damaged when caught during the chalkstream fishing and put back carefully. All fish caught under 2lbs, please return to the river.
