Trout Fly Fishing in Patagonia – Los Alerces & Esquel
Our Patagonia trout fishing trips cover the stunning Los Alerces National Park, along with the Trevelin and Esquel regions. Anglers will have the chance to fish legendary waters including the Rivadavia, Arrayanes, Futaleufú, Lago Verde, Laguna Larga, Krugger, and Frey. Each destination offers its own unique challenges and beauty, making them a must during your stay.
We can also combine trips between Esquel and the Rio Pico area, tailoring itineraries to maximise your fishing opportunities. Depending on the month of your trip, we will design a program that may include Le Fario Lodge and other local lodges, ensuring you experience the very best trout fishing Patagonia has to offer.
The famous “magic hour” at the banks of Le Fario Lodge, from late January to the end of the season, provides a unique chance to catch trophy brown trout measuring 20–24 inches. With its breathtaking landscapes and prolific rivers, Patagonia delivers a world-class fly fishing adventure.
The Patagonia trout fishing season runs from November 1st to May 1st, with peak opportunities for brown and rainbow trout throughout this period.

Rods
- #4 or #5 recommended for non windy days, and #6 or #7 for windy days.

Flies
Streamers
(size 4-6-8 and 10): Zonkers, Wooly buggers, Matukas y Marabou muddlers, in white, brown, black, green, olive, red and yellow.
Nymphs
Prince, Pheasant tail, Hare ear, damsell nymphs and dragonfly and attactors in size 10 to 16, and those really effective perdigons. Dont forget caddis pupa, and a variety of midges in # 20 and # 22.
Dries
caddis adults, Addams, Humphyrs, Wullfs, in similar sizes than nymphs. Also a selection of hoppers, dragons, damsels, beetle and ants.

Le Fario Lodge experience
Le Fario Lodge is the heart of our programs. Placed inside the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site of Los Alerces National Park, is a cozy lodge featuring four spacious bedrooms, in the banks of Laguna Larga. Both Gonzalo and Laura, the owners,
will be your hosts and do their best to make you feel at home. Gonzalo is an experienced fly fishing guide who knows the area by heart and is a passionate angler and chef. Laura serves as the fly fishing lodges lodge manager, a corporate affairs professional, and is also a skilled chef.
Accommodation
Each of the four Le Fario rooms features a king-sized bed, a spacious private bathroom overlooking the lake and the Andes mountains. The lodge has a spacious living room, a central wood fireplace with expansive windows that offer a great view of the magnificent surrounding landscape, and an outdoor hot tub placed next to the lodge, which you can enjoy anytime.
The wooden wader room is equipped with a comfortable place to change before and after fishing, and you can also make use of the sauna next to it.
A well provided wine cave next to the lodge is available to choose any of the huge variety of selected argentinian wines.
